Cardiovascular effects of CPAP and auto-CPAP during sleep in patients with OSA

چکیده
Treatment with auto-CPAP therapy With the ongoing advancements in technology through the past decade, auto-CPAP has displayed an advantage over fixed pressure CPAP in its ability to treat the patient’s changes in sleep state, sleep position, or longterm changes in the patient’s condition. Several brands of auto-CPAP devices are commercially available, with the common objective of maintaining airway patency by adapting the delivered pressure in response to partial and total closure of the upper airway. The operational algorithm of each manufacturer’s device differs considerably, and these differences can affect the ability of the devices to detect and treat respiratory events during sleep. The following two studies demonstrate these differing patient outcomes based on the auto-CPAP device used. 0 36 72 108 144 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 Controls Snorers

Two months follow up of auto-CPAP treatment in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea.
BACKGROUND Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) with fixed mask pressure is the current standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Auto-CPAP devices apply at any time the minimally required pressure to normalise breathing and may improve patient comfort and compliance. We present an open descriptive study of auto-CPAP treatment at home in patients previously managed with conve...
متن کاملEvaluation of an auto-CPAP device for treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea.
BACKGROUND Auto-CPAP machines used in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) are designed to vary the treatment pressure automatically in order always to apply the actually needed pressure. Consequently they should be able to achieve at least identical therapeutic effects as conventional constant pressure CPAP with a lower mean treatment pressure. The present study was designed to eval...
متن کاملAn auto-continuous positive airway pressure device controlled exclusively by the forced oscillation technique.
The forced oscillation technique (FOT) has been demonstrated to be a very sensitive tool for the assessment of upper airway obstruction during nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). The present study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of a novel auto-CPAP device based exclusively on the FOT. Following manual CPAP titration, 18...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Patients’ Adherence to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Disorder: A Multi-Method Approach
Background: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard therapy for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disorder. However, patients’ adherence to its regular use is poor. The present study aimed to determine the adherence rate to CPAP therapy by identifying factors affecting its regular use and its associated problems and discomforts among a sample population in Mashhad (...

OBJECTIVE To test the effectiveness of unattended home monitoring along with automatic titrating continuous positive airway pressure (auto-CPAP) as an acceptable method for diagnosing and prescribing proper CPAP pressure for treatment of patients presenting with classic symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). DESIGN Nonrandomized, prospective case study of 63 patients with a presumptive di...
